THE PEARL OF RED SEA: SHARM EL SHEIK

Sharm El Sheikh is a city on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula on the shoreline along the Red Sea.

Travel from Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh about 505 km (5 hours and 48 minutes).The administrative center of Egypt of South Sinai, which includes smaller coastal towns like Dahab, Nuweiba, St. Catherine and Mount Sinai.

Its strategic location led to the transformation of a fishing village into a major port and naval base for the Egyptian Navy. Although this city and holiday resort is a tourist center in Egypt, since the flight disaster 9269 Metrojet has lost popularity.

The modern nightlife offers bars, nightclubs and restaurants with a variety of specialties. Local Bedouin handicrafts are a popular souvenir for tourists. A number of international and famous restaurants gather around the center of Sharm, known as Naama Bay with its many golf courses and other leisure activities.

The Nile river is 6,670 km (4,160 miles) long and is the longest river in Africa and the world. Although commonly associated with Egypt, only 22% of the Nile flows through Egypt. In Egypt, the Nile creates a lush green valley in the desert.

The ancient Egyptians lived and farmed along the Nile, using the land to produce food for themselves and their animals. Ancient Egypt could not exist without the Nile. Because rainfall is almost non-existent in Egypt, floods provide the only source of moisture to sustain plants.

In the Book of Exodus it is said that the Israelites had been exploring the desert for three days without water. When the Israelites reached Marah, they complained to Moses. Marah had water but it tastes bitter. Moses then threw a piece of wood into the water, making it sweet and drinkable.

Elim was one of the places where the Israelites camped following their exodus from Egypt. It is referred as a place where twelve wells of water and seventy date palms. This was the place that the Israelites camped near the waters. The Book of Exodus also records that the Israelites left Elim two and a half months after leaving Egypt heading to Mount Sinai through the Sin Wilderness.
