PICNIC AND ANNUAL FEST IN MIDDLE CAICOS
Middle Caicos is the largest island in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The coastline of Middle Caicos or Grand Caicos is more dramatic than the other islands. The island separate from North Caicos by Juniper Hole and from East Caicos by Lorimers Creek. The narrow sections can only be passed by a small boat.
There are only three settlements on the island: Conch Bar, Bambarra, and Lorimers. The island is green and ideal for farming. I read that there are ruins of plantations like Haulover Plantation with chimney ruins and houses with horse footprints on the walls. I never heard it from my local friends. Too bad I did not get to see it while I was there.
Originally named Bermudian Harbor. Then called Mudian Harbor, finally called Mudjin Harbor. It is a 4.8 km long beach on the north side of Middle Caicos.
Mudjin Harbor is a lagoon with a crescent shape. The beach is beautiful with a huge limestone cave. Stalactites, stalagmites, owls, bats and salt lakes merge into a unique part of the most extensive cave in the region.
Blue Horizon Resort is the entrance to Mudjin Harbor Beach. I visited many beautiful beaches in the Turks and Caicos Islands, this beach is the best beach in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Unfortunately, Mudjin Harbor is not an ideal place to swim because so many sea creatures are not good swimming buddies, like sea urchins or sharks (sometimes sharks were seen swimming close to shore).
Bambarra Beach is a stunning beach in the northern half of Middle Caicos. I went to this beach at a special event that hold once a year. The sunny weather adds excitement to the Crab Fest. Lots of visitors came from all over the places, especially Providenciales. The Sandy Points Dock was busy with people coming by ferry from Providenciales and waiting for transport to take them to the site.
I went with two friends. My friend rented a car and we were driving about 45 minutes to Bambara Beach.
Music, food, and entertainment for children were the main entertainment of this annual event.
The waters at Bambara Beach are clear and calm. Because the water is shallow and warm, the beach is an excellent place to swim and relax compared to Mudjin Harbor.
