DAYDREAM IN RENO
Not many activities I did in Reno.
I’m not a gambler. I am not a winter sports lover. I never dreamed to ski down the slopes. I could not stand cold weather, let alone skiing or snowboarding. Goodness me.
I spent most of my vacation in Reno by walking and enjoying the beauty of Truckee River Walk.
The Truckee River is the center of life in Reno since the first bridge built in the late 1800s crossed the river. Then Reno famous for gambling and nightlife. The Truckee River was forgotten. Until the city council made river walks by the river in the 1990s.
Riverwalk area between Arlington Avenue and Lake Street. Invite locals or travelers to enjoy a collection of galleries and restaurants along the river.
That’s what makes me choose Reno after Las Vegas.
Not that I dislike Las Vegas. But when leaving Las Vegas I felt very relieved. For some unknown reason, I had stomach problems. Nausea. Then disappear when I got to Reno. Strange.
I changed my perception of travel. Now I do not want to visit the place because it is one to see or do. I want to do something to get closer to the local people’s life or the culture around me.
Staying in Reno/Spark is like coming home. I felt living in Malang, East Java. Once when Malang was still a small town with rice fields around our neighborhood. Wake up in the morning with cold weather.
If I am tired of walking (aimlessly), I sat for hours at one of my favorite coffee shops. Coffee shop with cozy atmosphere.
I loved watching locals interact each other. Stopped by the café, had a cup of coffee and hang out with friends. Some only came after an afternoon run along the river or walked with their dog.
I brought my netbook and edited my travel photos. The inside of the coffee shop was full of people enjoyed their afternoon with friends or worked something on their laptops. The music was not too much when I wanted to concentrate on the job. I completed a lot of my work here. Customers did not just sit inside but outside too. It was fun walking down the river and ending up in this cafe.
Enjoy simple things.
