Perjalanan Darat, Petra, Yordania

PHOTO ESSAY: DARI COLONNADED STREET KE TREASURY PETRA

“Wow … aku sudah jalan 26 kilometer,” kata Rayner.

Aku tak mengerti mengapa pedometerku tak berfungsi jadi aku tak tahu seberapa jauh berjalan. Tetapi jika seandainya Rayner kira-kira berjalan 2 kilometer dari hostel berarti aku sudah jalan 24 kilometer.

Meskipun sangat lelah, aku benar – benar senang akhirnya tiba di tangga terakhir Monastery. Kami beristirahat sebelum melanjutkan berjalan menuju pintu masuk.

The Basin Restaurant berjarak sekitar 4 kilometer dari gerbang utama Petra.

Kami berhenti sejenak setelah mencapai Treasury.

All buildings in Petra from Treasury, to the smallest and plainest tombs, carved in the rock. Except for The Temple of Dushara or Qasr Al Bint Al Faroun. It sits on the end of the Colonnaded Street around two kilometers from the Treasury.

I saw some of Bedouin men on their camels or donkeys listening to rap music. I read a few blog posts about ‘Pirate of Caribbean’ like men who offering their camels or donkeys to ride. Maybe because the day was almost over they just rode. They did not bother with us. One of the things that I had a great time was no hustle from the vendors, peddlers or rider of buggies or camels or donkey offered their goods or services.

The Colonnaded Street represents an original Nabataean design as one of the principal shopping streets of ancient Petra.

Great Temple – It is unclear whether it is the complex of temple or administrative building (Senate Hall??).

There are a numerous number of Nabatean burial on both sides of the street that destroyed by nature.

Nabataean Theater carved out of solid rock had a capacity of around 8,000 people.

All decorated facades are burial sites and places to honor the dead. While the caves where people live. Ironic when a beautiful place intended for people who die while living people live in holes in the hill.

Almost closing time in Petra. This morning we just lingered for a few minutes. This time we took a long time here for more photos and a good look at the Treasury. There were only a few buggies, camels and donkeys waiting for the next customers.

I took this photo in the morning. I did not realize until later that the way back to the entrance was going up. I walked slowly and drag my legs along the way. Rayner and Jordanian guide walked in front of me. Once a while both of them looked back and waved at me. I just waved back and asked them to just go ahead. Finally, I came back to where I started, which was at the gate of Petra. We reached the entrance gate after 6 pm.

Job well done. Rayner and I had dinner at the restaurant close to the Petra gate. We had a great day and I met an awesome friend.
